Rather nauseatingly, I still don’t have record player in the place where I’m living. Not that I have my remaining records either, but still, it would be nice to be able to check out my haul of stuff from Brazil. To be honest, I could have made a case for buying hundreds more things than I did. But having just given away or sold a few hundred records (it’s true, I bought just under 300 back from the US with me), I wasn’t in a mood to acquire too many more. But old habits die hard. Here’s what I got, most of it as yet unheard by me (btw, yes, I got a digital camera). After I have had a chance to listen to everything, I will make a special page on my haul from the trip…

It's not clear withere or not this is a straight compilation, or Brazilian cover versions of the songs. Obviously, I hope it's the latter.
Compilation: 'Motel Music' (LP; Radar Discos; 1969-1982)

I couldn't resist this for 1 Real (about 35 cents or 22p). It's a compilation of sex-related music. Pretty ridiculous, but there's some stuff on here I haven't heard.

I listened to this in the store. A really interesting (to me, anyway!) Brazilian take on late 60s easy listening instrumental albums. It has some odd jazzy instrumentation, and features 'love is blue', 'don't sleep in the subway' and 'you only live twice', as well as a few Beatles numbers. I wish I had managed to find more records like this.

An 80s reissue of this album. Shortly after buying it, I saw it for the same price on CD. Still, it's an entertaining cover...

I have never heard of this artist, and was unable to dig up any information about the record. But I was able to listen to it in the shop where I bought it. Happily, it sounded superb - dark, jazzy, and rhythmical, with some cool vocals. The cover is a nice Command Records rip off.

This appears to be a budget LP, and I saw a few copies of it on my travels.

A Brazilian group playing pop/rock hits of the time (such as 'california dreaming', 'you won't see me'), sung in Portuguese. My hopes aren't that high for this one, but I couldn't resist giving it a go.
The Youngsters: 'Mah-Na, Mah-Na/Eu Te Amo' (45; Polydor; 1969)

An interesting combination of songs - Piero Umiliani and Serge Gainsbourg. Although this 1 Real copy is pretty trashed, with this combination of composers, I can't see how the record can fail to be of some interest...
Unknown: 'The Lotus Sound' (LP; Parlophone; 1972)

I totally took a chance on this because it looks cool and has a Keith Mansfield penned number, 'a touch of excitement,' on it. It's not clear if this is a Brazilian recording or a domestic pressing of a UK LP. Again, I can't wait to hear it...
