I’ve come to the conclusion that the compilers of the Partners in Crime ‘Mood Mosaic’ series of compilations are very talented people. I’ve bought a bunch of these in the last few months, having happened upon them discounted. Today I’m listening to Volume 7, ‘The new shapes of sound’. It’s loosely bossa nova themed, but with a refreshing lack of preciousness about authenticity and 100% consistency. To be honest, it’s at times much more noodley and 70s than my normal taste, but the CD is really delightful to listen to anyway – the sequencing is perfect, with just the right distribution of peppiness. While some of the tracks are ones I’ve come across before, there are plenty that I would never have found any other way.
