Post a comment Search on Ebay Search on GEMM | | One of the oddest records I've bought in ages. This was sealed, and given the date and gratuitous mentions of the word 'funk' (e.g. 'my funky valentine'), I couldn't resist picking it up for $2, in spite of its strange 1920s-style cover artwork. It turns out to be a very strange disc indeed, and I can't imagine who its audience could have been. The tracks are kind of old-timey in feel, but with slightly soulful arrangements and some nice percussion, hidden behind the extra-prominent violins. This might not be a bad record if the mix was slightly less violin-heavy, but as it is, it's hard to stomach. One track does feature a funky 'open break' (as my record selling friends on ebay would say), but there is little else to recommend this record really. |
