This is one of the stranger albums in my collection. Unlike my two different Bacharach Baroque LPs, which are very poppy and accessible records on the theme of baroque-pop, this is a darker and stranger creation. There are two tracks with an overtly latin feel to them, Day Tripper and A taste of honey, and these are probably the best two. The arranger, Pete King, does not feel bound to the original songs too much, and so the tracks are unpredicatable and exciting to listen to. The other tracks are slightly harder going. For example, the near bulletproof 'walk on by' is given such a workover that I hardly recognized it. Still, this is a nice complement to my collection of ridiculous baroque pop LPs, and has a very cool cover. I'm now only a few tracks away from being able to make a pretty cool compilation of this stuff.
